A grab bag is packed in advance so you can abandon ship in seconds. It usually holds a handheld VHF, PLB, flares, a torch, first aid kit, seasickness tablets, water, sunscreen, copies of documents and a knife.
Keep it near the companionway, make sure every crew member knows where it is, and attach a lanyard so it can be clipped to the liferaft.
