Wake

Определение

След взбаламученной воды за движущимся судном.

Wake in practice

A wake is the waves and disturbed water left behind a boat. Large or fast vessels throw wakes that can roll a small boat or swamp a dinghy.

Many harbours have speed limits to reduce wake damage. You can estimate leeway by the angle between your wake and the boat's centreline.

Common questions

How do I handle a large wake?
Turn to meet it at about 45 degrees and slow down, so the boat doesn't roll beam-on.
Am I responsible for my wake?
Yes. Skippers are liable for damage caused by their wake.
