Privacy Policy
The short version
learntosail has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no ads. We don't collect personal data, and there is nothing to sell or share. Everything you do on the site stays in your own browser.
No account needed
You never sign up or log in. Every lesson, tool and game works without giving us your name, email or anything else.
What is stored, and where
To remember your progress, the site saves a few small items in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device and are never sent to us:
- Learning progress: lessons completed, quiz and exam results.
- Logbook: the sea time and passages you record.
- Lesson audio: where you stopped in each voiceover, so you can resume.
- Preferences: whether sound effects are muted, whether the mascot is minimised, and that you've seen the privacy notice.
Logbook exports (CSV) are created on your device and saved wherever you choose. We never receive a copy.
Cookies and tracking
We set no cookies. The site contains no analytics, tracking pixels, fingerprinting, advertising or social media scripts. Fonts and images are served from our own site, so loading a page doesn't contact Google or any other third party.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request details (such as browser type and the page requested) to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We don't use this information to identify or profile you. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for how it handles this data.
External links
Lessons link to other sites, such as the RYA, GOV.UK and Wikimedia Commons. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you follow a link.
Your control
Because your data lives only in your browser, you're fully in control of it. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings deletes your progress, logbook and preferences permanently. We can't recover them, because we never had them. Export your logbook first if you want to keep it.
